Vermox tablets are a worm treatment containing the active ingredient mebendazole, and are used to control pinworm / threadworm infestations. With very few exceptions, Vermox tablets can be taken by the whole family and features a very simple dosage system. One tablet is all that is required for each family member.

The active ingredient in Vermox tablets is mebendazole. This is an anthelmintic agent, meaning an agent designed to destroy parasitic intestinal pinworms / threadworms, which act to inhibit the absorption of sugars by the worms. It does this by interfering with the proteins in either the worm’s intestine or its absorptive cells, therefore starving it of the energy necessary to survive.

Vermox orange flavoured tablets containing of 100mg of mebendazole are available in packets of 4 or 6 tablets.

Ingredients:

The active ingredient Vermox is mebendazole. The tablets are sugar and preservative free. The inactive ingredients of the tablets are colloidal silicon dioxide, sodium starch glycolate, corn starch, hydrogenated vegetable oil, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, sodium lauryl sulfate, saccharin sodium, talc, tetrarome orange and FD&C yellow No. 6. Vermox suspension contains sucrose, methyl hydroxybenzoate and propyl hydroxybenzoate.

Side effects:

In rare cases involving very heavy threadworm infestations a Vermox treatment can produce transient symptoms including diarrhoea and abdominal pain. Other possible side effects are rare because mebendazole is poorly absorbed by the intestine but may include a loss of appetite, vomiting, drowsiness, headache or dizziness.

Dosage:

One orange-flavoured Vermox tablet is all that is required to treat an adult or a child aged 2 to 12 years, irrespective of their age, weight or size. Some children may find it easier to take the tablet if you crush it up or mix it with food or drink. If threadworm re-infection occurs after two weeks, then repeat the treatment. Read the information available on this website to see how best to prevent a reinfestation of threadworm in your home or refer to directions on the product packaging.
