How does it work ?
When you chew Nicorette Gum it releases controlled amounts of nicotine into your body ( about a third of the nicotine in a cigarette). This helps you to deal with cravings and withdrawal symptoms. If you use Nicorette Gum correctly you can double your chances of quitting successfully vs cold turkey.
How do I use the gum ?
Nicorette Gum is not an ordinary gum, so you should not chew it constantly. To make sure you get the most from your Nicorette Gum, use the Nicorette chewing technique.
1. Chew gum slowly until taste becomes strong (approx 1 minute)
2. Rest gum between the gum and cheek
3. Chew gum again when taste has faded. Each piece of gum should be chewed for 30 minutes. Chew another piece of gum when the craving returns, following the same procedure above.
How many pieces do I need to use ?
Weeks 1-12 Use 1 piece when there is an urge to smoke or every 1-2 hours. After 12 weeks Gradually reduce to 1-2 pieces a day and then stop use Use no more than 10 pieces of Extra Strength (4mg) gum in a day.
Precautions
Do not use if you are:
* Allergic to nicotine or any ingredient in the gum * Pregnant or breastfeeding
* Under 18 years of age
* Recently had a heart attack or stroke
* Angina that is not controlled
* Severe, irregular heartbeats (palpitations)
* A sore mouth or throat
Contact your doctor before use if you:
* Have severe cardiovascular disease
* Have high blood pressure that is not controlled * Have a stomach ulcer
* Have kidney disease
* Take insulin for diabetes
* Have an overactive thyroid or adrenal gland cancer.
