At Simply Pharmacy, we can dispense well over 1500 prescription medications from our discount
pharmacy. We follow a very well-regulated, government described set of guidelines for medications
pricing. If you've ever wondered how the prescriptions at our discount pharmacy are priced, here
is a guide.
Private pricing
Many medicines available through Simply Pharmacy allow people to get discount prescriptions,
even when you aren't eligible for concessions. This means that even overseas visitors and people
without concessions may still pay less than the ordinary price through our discount pharmacy.
PBS - Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme
In addition to providing subsidized doctor consultations, diagnostic services and hospital visits,
the government also subsidises the cost of some medications for all Medicare card holders.
If your medicine is eligible for a government subsidy, it will be on the PBS schedule available
at www.pbs.gov.au . You will also see a discount prescription price in your search results listed
next to PBS.
In many cases, Simply Pharmacy discounts prescriptions to well below the PBS limit! Our online
business model lets us offer you much better prices than ordinary retail pharmacies.
If your medicine is not on the PBS, no 'PBS' price will show up in the search results. It may
be that this type of medicine isn't government subsidized. Or, it may be that an equivalent medicine
is available which is listed on the PBS. However, you'll need your doctor to write you an alternate
prescription to get the PBS-listed medicine. Not all medicines are freely substitutable by our discount
pharmacists, by law.
Concession rates
If you have a concession card and have been prescribed a medicine listed under the PBS, Simply
Pharmacy discounts it to the standard concession rate.
Currently the discount prescription concession rate is $5.40, but the government does change this
from time to time. If your medicine has a small surcharge, this can be avoided by simply selecting
a generic brand when the website prompts you.
You'll still need to pay delivery on your concession-rate discount prescriptions - but remember
that you have the opportunity to make big savings by stocking up on your everyday items through
our discount pharmacy at the same time!
Safety Net
If you have a concession card and have been issued with a Safety Net card by Medicare, simply
provide Simply Pharmacy with a copy of your card and you'll pay nothing for the majority of PBS-listed
medications. Delivery is also free!
If you don't have a concession card and have reached the Medicare Safety Net, you'll still get
a Safety Net card which entitles you to all PBS-listed discount prescriptions at the concession
rate until December 31 in that year.
